Banana Choc Chip Biscuits

Today was cooking. Halfway through making the choc chip biscuits I realised I didn't have any eggs. Not panicing I checked good old google. Half a banana was substituted for the egg. I wouldn't recommend putting in banana regularly but in a bind it worked and the kids didn't mind the flavour.

Merry Christmas Banner

To say the kids are excited about Christmas is an understatement. Nic came up with this craft on his own, he wanted to make a Christmas banner.

We wrote the letters on the computer and printed them off. Once cut up he had to work out the order they went in which is good practice for his spelling. They are attached to some old wool (left over from the snowman decoration) with sticky tape.

Afternoon Tea at the Toy and Human Cafe

Today afternoon tea was turned from a snack in front of the TV to a true alfresco dining experience.

Today the kids ran the "Toy and Human Cafe". The name they picked was very literal as the dog dined first, picking a fine selection of blue lego. Nic took orders on a waiters pad made from scrap paper and cardboard from the recycling pile. Millie then of course wanted to do the same with another pad I had to quickly fashion.

Oliver enjoyed the service and the icing on the cupcake. And of course at the end everyone had to pay.

Pom Pom Snowman Christmas Decoration

Our Christmas tree is that much more special and classy (hmmm?) with the latest addition - our Christmas Pom Pom Snowman (with the wierd red eyes).Of course while making dinner Nic drank the last of the milk then wanted to wash the bottle out and make something with it.

While he washed is more than necessary I devised a plan to use the plastic to make pom pom templates. I got wool from the vest that I was knitting years ago (then when I dropped a stitch and couldn't work out how to fix it gave up). From the colour you can also see that it was an interesting choice of colour for a vest as well.If you don't know how to make pom poms there are heaps of tutorials on youtube.com.

So there we were while the pizzas were cooking twirling pom poms. I did the big one, Nic the middle and Millie the head, what a team! They are not of the most secure construction but for a tree is it ok (life on a beanie wouldn't have lasted long). The arms are cardboard from the youghurt packet and the eyes from the stationary (I might fix the eyes later when not pressed for time).

So there you have it. Instead of watching TV we came up with a lovely (yet slightly creepy) Christmas decoration.

Is there anything to do but Wii and TV?

"I'm bored"
With a million toys in the house (give or take a few) Nic was still bored. In desperation I took him to the library to rediscover the written form of television.

The trip ended with:
"See there is more to do than watch TV and play the Wii"
"Hey yeah!"

He is particularly liking the Paul Jennings short stories.

Breakfast is a Great Way to Start the Day (and a Blog)

Like everyone I really love my beautiful kids. I have a 6yo boy, 3yo girl and 1yo boy. They are great kids and I love spending time with them but day-to-day life can sometime get in the way. Whether it is the many daily loads of washing from toilet training or cleaning the never ending mess time seems to get away. This blog is a purposeful effort to do more meaningful thing with them.

Day 1: Breakfast is a Great Way to Start the Day.....

Looking for inspiration and energy and already having a hungry baby pulling on my pj pants I thought we could start this adventure gently by modifying what I already have to do. Saturday morning is pancakes which I normally make. Today I thought it is time Nic (6) learnt how to do it. You never know one day (maybe soon) I can lie in bed while my coffee is brewed (how young can you be to do a barista course) and breakfast is made.

From the picture above you can see that we did get to eat. My coffee of courage (and patience) is in the background. Nic had lots of fun and even didn't watch TV for half an hour. A few miss flips and only a little bit of crunch from egg shells it wasn't the disaster it could have been. Maybe this adventure isn't as harrowing as I had feared.
Until tomorrow......
